Beauty Therapist Gets A Makeover

Well-known Matakana based Beauty Therapist, Helena, is giving her popular beauty brand an overhaul, renaming it Glow Skin Studio (formerly Dottir Skin + Beauty). Still located on the corner of Whitmore and Takatu Roads, Helena’s home salon has been a trusted spot for Matakana and Omaha residents since she moved to the area in 2018.

The rebrand marks a new chapter for the business, one that Helena hopes will better reflect her vision and services. “The old name was a nod to my Icelandic birthplace and my maiden name, Viggosdottir, but Kiwis found it a little tricky to pronounce and remember,” Helena explains. “Glow Skin Studio is much more evocative and captures the feeling of joy and vibrancy I hope to achieve with every one of my clients.”

The new name coincides with some innovative changes Helena is making to her business. Embracing digital technology, she offers an easy-to-use online booking and payment system, making it simple for clients to schedule appointments. She's also introducing a new facial subscription service, allowing clients to spread the cost of their treatments over time. Another exciting introduction is the ‘Glow and Go’ self-service LED light treatment, perfect for customers who want a quick pampering session with as little as 30 minutes to spare.

“Many businesses have been moving towards flexibility of the user experience and I wanted to do the same,” Helena says. “I have invested in a new LED light, and on the days I’m not working, it just sits there idle. So, I thought, why not let my loyal customers come in and pamper themselves with a quick cleanse and a relaxing, rejuvenating light treatment?”

The ‘Glow and Go’ treatment is designed to be fast, flexible, and cost-effective, while also aligning with Helena’s ethos of being intimately connected to the local area and its people.

“Many of my customers have become good friends, and the business has really helped me and my family integrate into the Matakana community,” Helena shares. “My son now goes to Matakana School and I see many of my clients at pick-up and drop-off every day. Instead of just having them round to my house for coffee, why not let them pop in for an LED light treatment instead?” she laughs.

With a fresh name, innovative offerings, and a genuine, ongoing connection to her community, Helena’s Glow Skin Studio is set to continue brightening the skin of Matakana and Omaha locals for many years to come.
