Nurturing Communication
After relocating to Matakana with her husband and one-year-old daughter in February, Grace Morton has been enjoying the strong sense of community the region offers. Following her passion for helping others and working within the local community, she recently opened her private practice, Nurture Com.
A fully qualified speech and language therapist registered with the New Zealand Speech and Language Therapy Association (NZSTA), Grace holds a Master's in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Auckland, as well as an honours degree in Performance Voice and an undergraduate degree in Music and Psychology.
Nurture Com provides speech and language therapy services to people of all ages, both in person and online. As a member of the Mahurangi Health Collective, Grace also maintains a clinic space in Warkworth, offering convenient access for local clients. Passionate about nurturing communication Grace is dedicated to helping her clients develop their abilities and find their voice.
“I love working with individuals and their families to support communication, empathy and understanding,” she says.
While Grace specialises in voice disorders, hearing loss, and general communication needs, her services include support for voice, hearing, speech, language, stuttering, communication strategies (including the use of New Zealand Sign Language), post-stroke support, and communication assistance for neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease. She also focuses on social skills and confidence building, ensuring her clients feel empowered in all aspects of their communication.
Valuing her work with clients spanning all ages Grace expresses how privileged she feels to be a part of each client’s health journey. “Every person I work with has a unique set of strengths and skills that we can build on to improve communication and quality of life. I love working with older people, especially when we can get to know each other and I can hear their story. Through this relationship building, I am able to support them in individual ways that will benefit them the most.”
Grace also enjoys working with children and young people. “It is always special to connect with a child and the sessions are high energy, which is fun!” she shares. “My favourite aspect of working with children is to build relationships with the child’s caregivers and family. I learn so much from every family I work with.”
With warmth, enthusiasm, and a commitment to helping others, Grace is making a positive impact on the community. Look out for her 'Sing and Sign’ classes for parents and babies aged 0 to 2 years, designed to support communication between parents and their children through the use of New Zealand Sign Language, nursery rhymes and songs.
