A Punch Of Flavour

Mangawhai local Krystel has turned her passion for home cooking, healthy ingredients, and creativity into a thriving business.

After spending years perfecting the recipe and sharing jars with friends and family, Krystel jumped in with both feet launching PUNCH Chilli Crisp Oil just before Christmas. “The response has been incredible, I have been run off my feet keeping up with batch production,” shares Krystel. “People really vibe with the product, some customers love it so much they are going through jars weekly.”

Krystel relished the opportunity to take on the tasks of creating a business from scratch, getting creative and coming up with a name, logo, and label design. “It was also a really steep learning curve,” she reflects, “navigating council regulations, Ministry for Primary Industries guidelines, food hygiene, label requirements and wholesale deals; all within a few months.” But Krystel thrives under pressure and embraced the challenge.

And her hard work seems to have paid off with a real buzz around town and word spreading quickly as orders come in from across the country. “The support is amazing,” she says, “I’m really lucky to be surrounded by entrepreneurs and creatives. Casual business chats often end up turning into great new ideas.”

Unlike other chilli oils, which are typically made with canola or seed oils, PUNCH is crafted with olive oil - offering a healthier, more flavourful alternative. “After doing a lot of personal research, I had stopped using seed oils in my kitchen at home, so it was a natural progression to start experimenting with healthier oil options and PUNCH was born,” Krystel explains.

Every jar is full of crispy deliciousness, chilli flakes, shallots, and garlic, with each ingredient hand measured, weighed and poured. It packs a flavoursome punch to every meal! PUNCH is available to order via email or direct message on social media, and is delivered locally and shipped countrywide. It is also stocked at local Mangawhai stores Caro with Love and Mangawhai Meats, or visit PUNCH at the Mangawhai Tavern Market on Saturdays to grab a jar, or two.
