Authentic Italian On Wheels

More than just a food truck, Pasta e Basta has always been a journey, one that is now leading to Mangawhai Heads.

Born from a passion for authentic Italian cuisine, the concept first took shape during lockdown when founder, Alison Cecheto, originally from Brazil but raised in Italy since the age of 12, began making pasta from scratch. A love for the kitchen and a curiosity to experiment turned into something much bigger: a food experience dedicated to traditional, no-fuss, flavour-packed Italian dishes.

The initial plan was to set up in Whangamata, but after exploring the town, talking to locals, and getting a feel for the area, it became clear that the right opportunity lay elsewhere. Instead, a fully equipped food truck was fitted out - one with the flexibility to serve fresh, made-to-order meals anywhere. Since then, Pasta e Basta has been on the move, making its mark across Auckland, popping up at private events, markets, and weddings.

Then a visit to Mangawhai changed everything. Collaborating with No Limits Surf & Skate led to a realisation: the flavours of Pasta e Basta belonged here. The atmosphere, the people, and the rapid growth of the town made it the perfect place to set down roots. The decision to live and work in this coastal paradise felt right, not just for the business but for a better quality of life, especially with two young boys in tow.

Now, Mangawhai is going to experience some of the most traditional Italian food outside of Italy. No unnecessary fusions, no overcomplications - just simple, time- honoured recipes made with care. With an expanded menu and longer trading hours, the food truck will now offer not only its much-loved fresh pasta - made daily with semolina flour, traditional flour, and free-range eggs - but also Italian panini crafted with a carefully selected range of cured meats. And as for the risotto? That’s something locals and visitors will just have to taste for themselves.

Excitement is building, and there are still more surprises in store. One thing’s for sure: the food will look good and taste incredible.
