A Slice Of Family Tradition

Nestled in the heart of Mangawhai Village, Mangawhai Pizzeria has been serving up delicious meals for over 25 years.

Six years ago, Lizzy and her family took over the reins of this beloved establishment, bringing their passion for great food and a deep commitment to the community. As they’ve grown they recognised the importance of evolving, leading to the pizzeria recently undergoing an exciting transformation, unveiling a fresh and inviting space that perfectly captures the vibrant atmosphere the family strives to create.

Among the highlights of the renovation is a new ice cream area serving sundaes and cold refreshments - a delightful addition to their renowned menu of pizzas and pastas. Coffee lovers, too, can now enjoy a perfectly brewed cup alongside a selection of sweet treats, making the pizzeria a great destination for all ages.

For Lizzy, running a family business has always been about resilience and adaptability in the ever-changing landscape of the hospitality industry. From navigating challenges to pursuing new ideas, the business has thrived with family as its backbone, facing the ups and downs together. “We’ve embraced the need to pivot, ensuring that we stay relevant and continue to meet the needs of our community,” she says.

This spirit of togetherness has not only strengthened the team's operations but has also fostered a warm, welcoming environment where guests feel like part of the family - a core value Lizzy has always held as her top priority.

Quality remains the cornerstone of Mangawhai Pizzeria. The family takes pride in crafting their pizza bases and fresh pastas in house, a tradition rooted in Lizzy’s upbringing of homemade meals. “I was adamant about making our own dough and fresh pastas,” she shares, a trait that makes the pizzeria unique.

As Mangawhai continues to grow, Lizzy celebrates the diverse dining options opening up in the area. Rather than competing, she focuses on enhancing her offerings and discovering how to complement other local businesses. “It’s been a tough few years, but having my family involved - my children and brothers supporting us - without a doubt has been the highlight of this journey so far,” she reflects.

Currently open from 3pm to 8pm, Thursday through Sunday, the team plans to extend hours during the summer season and looks forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike into the Mangawhai Pizzeria family.
