Cooking with love and family

Love Food is a cookbook celebrating the traditions of baking, preserve-making and the love of food handed down from generations past, intermixed with the stunning backdrop of Mangawhai and Te Arai.

The Love Food summer edition cookbook is a tribute to the love of whānau and kai. Marking special occasions or simply celebrating every day we have together, and taking care of the environment while we do so with a strong emphasis on garden to table and seasonal food.

This cookbook is back-to-basics and rethinks traditional favourites to encourage our tamariki to join in, have fun and enjoy food, getting the whole family involved. Each recipe is so simple that a four year old can help, and many involve only a few ingredients. Love Food cookbook embodies the saying “cooking is love made visible”. Valuing family and home, valuing our past, kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua - we look to the past to see the future.

Jo Farrimond, the woman behind the Love Food cookbook says, “Mangawhai and Aotearoa are my tūrangawaewae, my place of belonging.” Having lived most of her life overseas in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris, Los Angeles and 17 years in New York, Jo has worked as an award-winning Art and Creative Director at some of the world’s most iconic magazines, including Cosmopolitan and Sports Illustrated, as well as Cuisine and Next Magazine here in New Zealand. Happy to be home, she couldn’t imagine anywhere better to be with her family and children right now.

With many of us experiencing shared hardships over the past few years, there was a shift to the kitchen being a place of positivity, reinvigorating the love of home cooking and baking. As a country and community collectively trying out new things - baking homemade cakes and cookies, testing the waters with sourdough starters and leaving baked goods on neighbours doorsteps; now more than ever it seems we are going back to basics, cooking more at home and becoming interested in trying out new recipes and methods.

This 156 page ‘back to basics for the whole family’ cookbook uses easy to follow, step by step photography of true, tried and tested family favourite recipes that are quick, simple, fun and kid friendly. Whether it's baking, preserving, family meals, sensational seafood, Christmas celebrations or summer holiday fare, you will find everything you need to help you on your journey in the kitchen right here!
