Immerse yourself in nature

Made By Hideaway is a bespoke building company based in Auckland building tiny homes, custom designed outdoor saunas, sleepouts and other small dwellings locally and nationwide. Their first rentable off-grid cabin, fondly named Mabel, is remotely located in the rolling hills of rural Waipu and awaiting your visit.

Designers and Builders Rick and Nikki Hill, have strong family
ties to the area so jumped at the chance to try out the landshare concept in a beautiful spot just a short ten minute drive from Waipu township. Teaming up with local landowner, Lisa Sutherland, to bring you the ultimate getaway nestled in the Brynderwyns overlooking Bream Bay and Whangarei Heads; they have designed a traditional kiwi inspired corrugate cabin which perches neatly into the local landscape.

The cabin sits amongst eight hectares of native bush and has clear views across pastoral fields to the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Despite being small in size it has everything you need for a short getaway, including a queen sized bed, mezzanine for the kids, full kitchen, shower room and, the heart and soul of the cabin, ‘Roaring Meg’ the wood burning fire. Topped off with the luxury of an outdoor bath with a view.

Aimed at getting folks away from the hustle and bustle and getting people to turn off their phones and enjoy the surrounding nature, Mabel is the perfect spot to get some peace and quiet. Whether it's walking around the nearby forest, taking an outdoor bath or cooking on the fire, there are many ways to reconnect with your loved ones and recharge the batteries.

Mabel the cabin was designed to gently blend into the bush; to encourage guests to be immersed in nature and explore their surroundings, to adopt a slower pace, make more time for doing less and to leave a small footprint on the surrounding environment. It’s about making the most of those often neglected experiences like the light shifting throughout the cabin, the salty breeze wafting through the windows and the gentle hum of nature surrounding you.

If you love waking up to the sound of birds, hearing the crackle of fire and putting your feet up, then this is the spot for you. All you need to bring is a good book, some fresh food and your favourite humans and you’re all set.
