Organic Living Made Easy

Kakariki Health and Wellbeing in Mangawhai continues to deliver the same great quality fresh produce, meat, organics, Mediterranean food, and supplements, now from its new location.

After relocating in May last year from the Bennetts Café complex to the old Village Wine Store next to The BBQ Hut, Kakariki Health and Wellbeing has flourished in its bright, spacious new store. In response to customer requests for healthier snack and beverage options, the store now serves takeaway organic coffee, alternative hot beverages, organic salads, seasonal fresh juices, and smoothies, catering to the whole family.

Owners, Anneke and Craig, emphasise providing healthier choices for children with Anneke noting, “Parents don't want their children loaded with drinks high in sugar, chemical colours, and artificial flavours. It's not good for growing bodies and often has an instant effect on their behaviour, especially from a spike in sugar. We offer healthy options like carob lattes, fluffies and smoothies.”

The store has become a family affair, with their two eldest children, Che and Stella, joining the team. Che, passionate about quality coffee, highlights that Kakariki’s offerings include organic coffee beans and local organic A2 milk, alongside dairy-free and alternative options like turmeric, beetroot, and cacao/mushroom lattes. Stella, inspired by her travels in Europe, has introduced keto and vegetarian salads and nutrient-packed smoothies, including calming collagen, kiwi green, and the sunshine special.

Healthy eating has always been a cornerstone of family life for Anneke and Craig. Reflecting on their journey, Anneke recalls, “I was always trying to find ways to get more goodness into our children's diets, so spirulina and feijoa smoothies were a regular treat that they loved. Our kids would often walk around the house grinning with green spirulina smoothie moustaches!”

The couple’s commitment to organic living began nearly two decades ago when they transitioned to natural health and household products during Anneke’s pregnancy with Stella. “We started to read all the chemicals in household products and threw out all of our soaps, shampoos and cleaning products and found natural alternatives. We researched and started to eat organically by growing a vege garden, planting fruit trees and shopping at Harvest Wholefoods in Auckland,” the couple shares.

Now an integral part of the Mangawhai community, Kakariki Health and Wellbeing are proud to bring health and wellbeing to its customers. Anneke and Craig express gratitude to their loyal patrons for their ongoing support and encouragement, inspiring them to continue with their mission and thrive in their new space.
