The point of healing

Deborah Jane was drawn to acupuncture for her own healing and now wants others to experience the benefits too.

What is acupuncture and how does it work?

Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile needles inserted into specific points on the body to promote circulation and mobilise the body's natural immune and healing response. The practice comes from traditional Chinese Medicine and is just one of the many tools we have in our toolbox. Cupping, moxibustion, herbs, and lifestyle advice can also be offered.

What does it treat?

While acupuncture is commonly thought of as treating pain from musculoskeletal injuries, it can in fact treat a wide range of illnesses and conditions. Such as the common cold and flu, back pain, knee pain, arthritis, cancer recovery, headaches, migraines, digestive issues, constipation, haemorrhoids, loose bowels, IBS, thyroid issues, irregular and painful periods, menopause, fertility issues, respiratory disorders, allergies, hair loss skin conditions, weight loss, stress, anxiety, and depression.

What is the process?

During an acupuncture session, your acupuncturist will choose points to stimulate according to your personal health and wellness needs. As blocked energy begins to flow and your body relaxes, feel-good hormones like endorphins, norepinephrine, and oxytocin (responsible for pain relief, improved mood and feelings of well-being), increased alertness and memory, or deep rest and calm are released.

This activates the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems, restores blood flow and improves circulation, and breaks up stagnant energy so that the body begins to heal itself and re-balance

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin, about the width of a human hair. They are much, much thinner and more gentle than hypodermic needles. Some points may feel a slight pinch, and others feel like nothing at all.

What drew you to acupuncture?

I was frustrated with the treatment options offered in Western Medicine. I didn’t want to take medication to treat the symptoms of my illness for the rest of my life. I wanted to address the root of the problem and see some real change.

How has it helped you?

I used acupuncture for infertility from PCOS and successfully carried three children to term. I also used acupuncture for stress and anxiety. Because I know the benefits and what I can treat, I basically use it for everything.

Why would you recommend acupuncture as a healing modality?

Acupuncture is not a band-aid or symptom-suppressing pill that merely covers up or manages symptoms.

Is it for everyone?

I would say yes, but perhaps I am biased. I have treated so many people whom I call the walking wounded: not really sick but not well and living their best life either. I have seen a real change in people, when their bodies are rebalanced and their own healing ability is activated, when they are sleeping better and less stressed, and not experiencing chronic pain they go on to have amazing lives.

And finally, you specialise in Cosmetic Acupuncture. What is it and how does it work?

Facial Acupuncture is a specific set of acupuncture points used to naturally enhance and boost the look and health of your skin. It works by causing tiny microtraumas to the skin, which signals the body to send collagen, elastin, and microcirculation to the face to heal, repair, and glow.

Facial acupuncture reduces the surface effects of ageing by triggering a self-repair response in the skin as well as addressing the internal imbalances that contribute to ageing.

Benefits of acupuncture

More energy and focus, sounder sleep, less anxiety, brighter glow, reduced pain, and balanced hormones. We're so good at helping clients achieve those things, that these are basically positive ‘side effects’ of acupuncture treatment, in addition to the primary focus of your treatment.
