At the helm is Head Chef Neil Sapitula, named Cuisine’s Rising Star for 2023 he brings an inspiring blend of creativity, skill, and multicultural influences to the menu at Rothko. With a deep appreciation for flavours from around the world, Neil weaves together his heritage and global culinary experiences to craft dishes that are as inventive as they are inviting.
Rothko’s transformation is epitomised by its new Kitchen Gallery, designed to bring diners closer to the action culinary magic. The ‘Chef’s Table’ dining experience offers a captivating view of the team working their culinary magic on the newly installed woodfired grill, showcasing the artistry behind each dish as it’s prepared. This intimate and engaging setup connects guests to the heart of the restaurant, making every meal a dynamic and memorable dining experience.
The exceptional team at the heart of Rothko includes Sous Chef Minami, who brings over a decade of expertise from Auckland’s finest Japanese restaurants, blending precision and artistry into every dish. Junior Sous Chef Nitin adds a Mediterranean flair, specialising in pasta and Italian cuisine refined through his years in renowned Auckland establishments. Senior Chef de Partie Shaun, affectionately known as Rothko’s ‘Grill Man,’ has been a cornerstone of the team for over three years, complementing his expertise with experience from Matakana’s Jin Jin. Completing the team is Restaurant Manager Manjul, whose impressive background managing elite establishments such as the two-hatted Lodge Bar and London’s Hilton Hotel ensures every guest enjoys a seamless and welcoming experience.
