Glamping on the Mahurangi Harbour
Beth and Roger Harper vividly remember the first time that they saw the stunning beauty of the Mahurangi Harbour from their boat, over 20 years ago now. It was magical then, and it is no less magical now.
Years later, they decided to escape the madding crowd and move North. Recalling that first encounter, they took a drive down Mahurangi West Road to see if their memories were accurate. It wasn’t long until they fell in love! How could a place this beautiful, relatively untouched, and less than 40 minutes from Auckland exist? They literally had driven past this road hundreds of times over the years and never realised the beauty that lay in wait.
Fast forward another three years and they had purchased part of a lovely farm right on the water overlooking Pukapuka Inlet. Confirming that they weren’t the only ones to think this was the most beautiful place they had ever seen, they spotted the farm in a very popular painting in the Matakana Gallery and were also pleasantly surprised one day to come through Auckland Domestic Airport and see a large mural of the farm being used as a hoarding.
From the outset they thought a luxury glamping business would be an amazing venture to set up for the farm, given the breathtaking views, proximity to Auckland, and the privacy. And so, Waha Ridge Glamping was born and commenced taking guests in 2023.
