A Floral Escape

Born from a passion for growing anything and everything, Orchard Lane Florals is now blossoming with opportunity.

Growing up on a lifestyle property in the Far North, Myfanwy was surrounded by gardening. Her mother grew cut flowers, while her father was an avid orchardist and vegetable gardener. In 2018, she and her husband, David, purchased a 2.5-acre former avocado orchard in Mangawhai, where they now live with their two sons, Mason (10) and Nate (8).

After setting up a small-scale market-style garden, Myfanwy quickly discovered the joy of growing flowers and sharing them with friends. For the first few years, she supplied fresh blooms to the local florist and sold flowers outside the couples fishing shop. When the local florist closed earlier this year, she made the decision to leave the corporate world behind and pursue flower growing full-time.

With 20 years of experience in marketing and advertising, Myfanwy wanted to create a floral experience that everyone could enjoy. After featuring her garden in the 2024 Mangawhai Garden Ramble, Orchard Lane Florals was officially born, inspired by her joy of sharing time in the garden with others.

Orchard Lane Florals now offers weekly ‘pick-your-own-blooms’ sessions, as well as pre-picked bloom buckets for those eager to try DIY floral arranging. Custom orders are also available, picked fresh and delivered the same day within Mangawhai. With a beautiful setting, the business has quickly diversified, hosting garden events such as weddings, hen parties, and baby showers, as well as running workshops.

“Opening my garden to the public has been the most rewarding experience. Seeing others enjoy the space as much as I do brings so much joy,” Myfanwy reflects. The pick-your-own experience has been popular across all age groups, with young children especially enjoying the garden. Myfanwy also offers consulting for those looking to grow their own cut flowers at home, identifying teaching others as another passion of hers.

What started as a hobby has organically evolved into a thriving business. With Orchard Lane Florals continuing to grow, Myfanwy is excited to see what the future holds for her blooming enterprise.
