Explore Creativity - Mangawhai Artists Trail

The last weekend in February sees the highly anticipated return of the Mangawhai Artists Trail on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February.

This annual event by Mangawhai Artists Inc (MAI) is a highlight for art enthusiasts and a celebration of the vibrant creative community in Mangawhai. Free to attend, the trail offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore open studios and venues showcasing a diverse range of artistic talent.

From painters to potters, weavers to sculptors, and photographers to metalworkers, the event promises something for every taste. Visitors are welcome to engage with the artists, learn about their creative processes, or simply enjoy browsing the collections at their own pace.

A printed guide, including a detailed map of participating studios, is available at the MAI Gallery in Mangawhai Village (opposite Bennett’s) and other local spots. For those preferring digital convenience, the map can also be downloaded from the MAI website.

Whether attendees choose to follow the numbered trail or create their own route, the journey offers a chance to discover art in every corner of the region. Studios as far as Waipu and Kaiwaka will be participating, just a 20-minute drive from Mangawhai they offer the perfect opportunity for a full day of adventure and exploration.

Mangawhai’s cafés and eateries ensure plenty of options for coffee breaks and leisurely lunches, with many conveniently marked on the map.

Don’t miss the current exhibition at the MAI Gallery, featuring the colourful, quirky paintings and sculptures from the versatile Elena Nikolaeva and Deva Prem. The Stylish Collective, opposite the museum, also showcases a wonderful display of paintings by a long-standing group of artist friends.
