Hazel's artistic journey began within a family deeply rooted in artistic pursuits. With a father who was a painter and photographer, and a mother who excelled as a concert pianist, creativity was an intrinsic part of her upbringing. At the young age of five, Hazel immigrated to New Zealand from Surrey, England, and eventually attended Takapuna Grammar School. It was here that her artistic talents blossomed, leading her to embrace the path of becoming an artist.
Guided and inspired by her father, Hazel embarked on a lifelong journey of artistic exploration, experimenting with various techniques and mediums over the years. Today, she calls Matakana home, where she passionately paints from her studio, focusing on original abstract, traditional, and landscape oil paintings. Additionally, Hazel takes on commission work, tailoring her artistry to meet the visions and desires of her patrons.
But Hazel's artistic prowess doesn't end with her canvases. She extends her creative spirit into a charming shop, Hazel Hunt Furniture and Art, where visitors can immerse themselves in an array of artistic offerings. From exquisite chandeliers, leather chairs and coffee tables, to carefully curated artwork and more, her shop is a haven for art and decor enthusiasts.
For those eager to witness the magic firsthand, Hazel welcomes visitors to her studio and shop on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. Located at 1168 Leigh Rd, Matakana, the studio provides an opportunity to explore her artworks, and perhaps find that perfect piece that resonates with your artistic soul.
