Thrilling new read

Rings On Water is the much-awaited sequel to Blood on Vines, by author Madeleine Eskedahl, who says her local area is where she draws inspiration from.

Local author, Madeleine Eskedahl, is due to release her second novel in the Matakana Series, Rings On Water, this month. A crime thriller, it’s about Sergeant Bill Granger, the local policeman, who is called in to investigate when a young woman is found dead at a local beach. What seems to be a straightforward case of an unfortunate death, turns into a complex web of small-town secrets and a desire for revenge that will soon place Bill’s family in danger.

Madeleine’s debut thriller, Blood On Vines, was published in 2021, the first instalment in the Matakana Series. She says she’s humbled by the support from local readers, who helped make it Matakana Village Books’ number one-selling title of 2021.

“I feel fortunate living in an environment so full of factors to draw inspiration from,” says the local author. “I love to explore the different themes and social fabric of everyday life.”

Madeleine finds research “interesting and fun”, and has been fortunate to attend forensic conferences and, coming up in June, she is attending two ‘Writers’ Police Academies’ in the USA. “I’m looking forward to stimulating topics such as CSI, Homicide 101, Firearms and the Use of Force Simulator, as well as Death by Powders and Pills, to name but a few,” she says.

Currently writing the third book in the series, ominously titled Angels Of Clay, in her spare time Madeleine enjoys gardening and monitoring the Korora, our little blue penguins nesting at Ti Point.

Rings On Water, will be launched at The Vintry in Matakana on Sunday 25 June at 2pm. Join her for a glass of wine and nibbles. RSVP to MadeleineEskedahlAuthor@gmail.com to secure your spot.
