Matakana to London, and beyond!

Enjoying a morning coffee while away with friends in Fiji, founder Steph Wyborn recounts how the topic turned to the challenges they all faced: restless nights, discomfort from sleeping positions, and the visible effects on their appearance come morning. Ranging from cleavage wrinkles to facial lines, she says “it became clear that sleep posture played a pivotal role in not only how we all felt but how we looked in the morning.”

Inspired by this shared experience Steph was determined to find a solution. After her initial research it became clear that to get what she wanted, the traditional pillow design needed a rethink. She found herself reading everything she could on how wrinkles form and how our posture affects our sleep, before setting out to create her own pillow.

The development was very rudimentary in the beginning, “it all started at my kitchen bench with a bread knife, I just carved a pillow up to see what might work.” Eventually she found a New Zealand based memory foam provider that could help bring her prototypes to life. It took 16 prototypes to get the Go Pillow where it is today – a pillow not only designed for every night sleep, but small enough that it can be taken on the go. The Go Pillow comes with a range of accessories to transport it to the beach or on a plane as carry-on, enabling sound sleep wherever you are in the world.

The introduction of Hyoumankind pillows at Harrods marks a significant milestone for the brand, solidifying its position as a leader in sleep innovation. Much like their water bottle, Steph describes how her customers take their pillow with them everywhere. “We get sent pictures of our pillows on beaches in Greece, tied to packs on the Great Walks, people take them everywhere. We even spotted them on more than a few All Blacks bags when they were jetting off last year! So we can’t wait to see where they journey to now they are stocked in Harrods.”

“With the Go-Pillow, we want to change the way people view their pillow and turn the concept of the traditional pillow on its head. Our lives have changed and we are so much more transient than we have ever been – we go away on holiday, we stay at our friends and partners and most-importantly – in our busy lives we take our rest at whatever times we can find it. The Hyoumankind Go-Pillow is designed to purposefully be small, roll up and to be right there with you; when and how you need it.” - Steph Wyborn

Closer to home you can find Hyoumankind stocked at Tea & Tonic in Matakana, or online where the brand offers a 30 day trial period.
