Jon Toogood is well known as the hard rocking frontman of legendary Kiwi rock group Shihad, so when I heard he was doing a solo performance at Leigh Sawmill I was intrigued.
Many established musicians try similar acoustic sets and can’t pull it off. However, Jon Toogood proved why he is a Kiwi household name and is worthy of being inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
Toogood performed classic Shihad tracks along with covers from Th’ Dudes, David Bowie and Split Endz. He was more than willing to express his love of music, life, and family and friends through a platform that leaves musicans truly exposed.
Heartfelt performances like this don’t come along often, but when they do you count yourself lucky to be part of it. The audio quality wasn’t always there but that adds to the charm and humour of live music, and nothing beats getting on a personal level with true artists.
